Department of Cultural Studies and Languages

The Department of Cultural Studies and Languages offers courses in history, religion, English and Nordic languages and literature.

These traditional humanistic university subjects pose central questions about the world around us and the human condition such as: Where do we come from? Who are we? And where are we going?

A Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Studies and Languages can be useful in many jobs that require: cultural and intercultural understanding, knowledge of English, independence of thought, critical analysis, combined with knowledge of our society from historical times until the present day.

A Bachelor’s degree also qualifies a student for entry into a Master programme. In connection to this, the Department of Cultural Studies and Languages offers Master studies in Literacy (Norwegian and English) and History didactics. In addition a Bachelor’s degree also qualifies a student to take courses in Educational theory and practice (PPU), a postgraduate certificate in education (1 year full-time or 2 years part-time) which provides a formal teaching qualification for graduates.

The Department of Cultural Studies and Languages is located within the campus of the University of Stavanger in Hulda Garborg’s house.
