Department of Early Childhood Education


The department of Early Childhood Education trains preschool teachers for educational work with children from 0 – 6 years in early childhood institutions (kindergarten) and offers a Master’s programme in Early Childhood Education.

Bachelor Programme:
Preschool teacher (3 year full time studies)
Preschool teacher (4 year part time studies)
Early Childhood Studies (2 year part time studies) for persons who hold a BA degree in teaching or child welfare and want to specialize for teaching positions in kindergartens.

Exchange programme for international students:
Comparative Educational Studies 20 or 30 ECTS (taught in English)

Master’s Programme:
Early Childhood Education (2 year fulltime studies)

The teacher training programme for early childhood education has been established in Stavanger in 1971 and developed into a recognized centre within the field of early childhood education. Today the department employs approximately 35 persons. There are two professors and approximately 1/3 of the teaching staff are associate professors.
