The Library at Archaeological Museum

The collection in the library at Archaeological Museum can be used by all staff and students at UiS.

The library is placed on the second floor (first if you are British) at Archaeological Museum. The museum was earlier a part of Stavanger Museum. The library resources there were shared when Archaeological Museum became a separate museum in 1975, with its' own library.

The library's main subject areas are archaeology and conservation. In addition to this there is literature about other areas, such as history, botanics, geology etc. The library subscribes to about 80 journals, and it has a big collection of publications from other museums and similar institutions around the world.

After Archaeological Museum became a part of UiS last year, the staff at the library have been doing a lot of work getting the collection into Bibsys. About 7000 books have been registered so far, and can be searched for in Bibsys Ask. There is still quite a few books and many journals and series that are not registered in Bibsys. If you want to know whether the library has a title you can't find in Bibsys, you may contact them and ask.

For the staff at Archaeological Museum, the library now starts training in using Bibsys and databases the library subscribes to. Archaeological Museum has not had access to such databases before joining UiS, so this is a new way to use the library.

All staff and students at UiS can use the library at Archaeological Museum. Everyone is of course welcome to visit the library within opening hours. There are study places available, and there are plans for search terminals and wireless network. If visiting the library outside of opening hours should be needed an appointment is necessary.

It is also possible to order books or journal articles from the library and have them delivered to Ullandhaug or Bjergsted. Staff will receive the books in the internal mail, while students can pick them up in the library at their study place.
