Biomedical engineering

Biomedical Engineering

(BME) is the application of engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes (e.g. diagnostic or therapeutic). This field seeks to close the gap between engineering and medicine.

Clinical engineering is the branch of biomedical engineering dealing with the actual implementation of medical equipment and technologies in hospitals or other clinical settings. At University of Stavanger we have given different courses in clinical engineering (Bachelor degree) since 1980.

Forskningsområder

  • Biomedical measurements and monitoring, particular measurements of parameters related to stress or activation in learning context.
  • Development and use of simulators for training in acute medicine, intensive care and anaesthesia. Work started 1988.
