The conference will focus on linguistic variation, change and contact, as well as text production and literacy, in the North Sea area. The North Sea area is defined broadly, to include all countries and language areas with geographical/cultural/commercial connections to the North Sea.
HLLNSA2009 is organized by the North Sea Language History Programme and the Middle English Grammar Project at the University of Stavanger.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE CONFERENCE START:
The shuttle bus from the City Centre to the conference site will leave at 0815 on Wednesday 26 August from the Radisson SAS Atlantic Hotel (Olav V's gate 3, large hotel across the street from the lake in the centre of town. A map showing the locations of the conference hotels is available here.) Registration will take place in Kjell Arholms Hus from 0830, and the conference opening begins at 0915 in Auditorium 3.

NB!! The Stavanger sightseeing walk on Tuesday 25 August is postponed with one hour because of a cancelled flight that involved many delegates. It leaves at 1800 from the Radisson SAS Atlantic Hotel (meeting point in the hotel lobby).
