A number of outstanding scientists and scholars in technology, science, social science and philosophy will address prospective aspects of energy, social change and social responsibility. Their lectures and papers will also be discussed in plenary.

Stavanger is the third largest urban area in Norway and is situated in one of the most creative and resourceful regions in Scandinavia. Stavanger is the Petroleum Capital of Norway. The city is firmly based in the rich traditions and history of southwestern Norway. It promotes cultural values and social responsibility. Stavanger was one of the two European Capitals of Culture in 2008.
The Academy of Sciences was founded in Stavanger on 17 June 2004, as in support to the efforts to establish the University of Stavanger. It recruits its members from the University and many other academic and research institutions in the region.
