TODDLER Final conference in Ghent, Belgium

The TODDLER project marked the end with a big final conference in Ghent, Belgium on 7.-8. October 2013. Early years practitioners, policy makers, ECE providers and others joined us for a stakeholders' conference and workshops on quality enhancement in early years provision.

Collage

The past 3 years 9 different partners form 8 different European countries have been working together in the Comenius project TODDLER. Together, they have been analyzing, comparing, contrasting, commenting on the existing variety in provisions and conditions for toddlers from disadvantaged backgrounds in education and care in Europe.

A wide range on ‘good practices’, images, visions, perspectives etc. were recently addressed in this conference. At the same time course modules that have been designed for teacher training programs will be presented. A true inspiration for all early years practitioners, pre-schoolteachers, student-teachers, teacher trainers and political advisers.

Prof. P. Leseman will describe recent European findings on quality of early years provisions (both care and education). Focus will go to the young children of disadvantaged backgrounds and the need for quality provisions to give them a fair start in education. What are critical success factors? What are needs in early years provisions? What kind of professional support is needed? Through the description of this European context, the background of the TODDLER project is situated.
Welke professionele ondersteuning is nodig?

Best practices and reflections on the current provisions for toddlers throughout Europe. How can we be inspired by our European colleagues? What initiatives can serve as ‘good practices’? How can we use these ‘good practices’ to train our future and current early years practitioners (both care and education) to raise the chance on equal opportunities for toddlers with a diverse and disadvantaged background? Let’s share and learn!
