Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences

The Department is diverse, and cover areas such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, statistics, biological chemistry, molecular cell biology and environmental engineering.

Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences

The Department offers a number of study programs within these fields on everything from undergraduate level to Ph.D.-programs. In addition, the Department is responsible for all teaching in basis subjects like mathematics, physics and chemistry in the other study programs at the faculty.

Undergraduate programs offered are a one year program in mathematics, and bachelor programs in Mathematics, Applied Science, Chemistry and Environmental Science, and Biological Chemistry.

Master programs currently offered at the Department are in Biological Chemistry, Environmental Technology and Natural Science with Technology (integrated teacher education). The program in Environmental Technology is offered in English with international admission.

At the Ph.D.-level the Department offers programs in Biological Chemistry and in Offshore Technology. In addition, employees at the Department are often involved in supervising PhD-students on other programs in other departments.

Research activities
The academic staff consists of a little over 30 persons, more than half of them full professors. There are active research activities going on in all fields at the Department, and the Department has a many research staff and Ph.D.-students.

There is considerable laboratory activity at the Department, both connected to education and research, and a number of technical staff are involved in running this activity. The Department offers good research facilities, in particular for biochemistry, molecular cell biology and microscopy/image analysis.

The Department has four scientific areas:

Biological Chemistry
