Department of Mathematics and Physics

The department offers education and scientific research in mathematics, statistics and physics.

The department is responsible for all basic tuition in mathematics, physics and statistics at the Faculty of Science and Technology. We offer study programmes at all levels (link to Norwegian pages) within these areas.

For international students, we offer an English-taught master programme in Mathematics and Physics.

Research is concentrated on the following areas: 

  • materials science
  • theoretical particle physics and cosmology
  • mathematical statistics
  • real and complex analysis
  • algebraic geometry
  • mathematical physics.

There are currently 40 employees including doctoral and postdoctoral fellows, and 100 students at the department.
