Prerequisite
Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or similar. 

Method of work
Active participation at lectures in class is recommended.
All information about the course (including information about time for lectures) will be posted on UiS’s learning platform It`s learning.
Lectures and material will be given in English.
Mandatory work demands (such as hand in assignments, projects, etc.) must be approved by course coordinator ahead of examination date.

Course content
The specifics of the Arctic region to be reviewed
Basic introduction to and understanding of the Arctic physical environment with emphasis on the difference between the design conditions and the operational conditions. The cause of and conditions during Polar Low pressures to be discussed.
The specifics of the Southern Barents Sea and the North Eastern Barents Sea as well as the Beaufort Sea and the Pechora Sea to be reviewed in detail. Conditions in Bohai Bay, China will be covered.
Development solutions for offshore oil and gas fields in the Arctic region to be discussed in detail; this includes separate lectures on well stream, fixed offshore structures, anchored floaters, transport solutions, offshore pipelines, winterization, emergency escape, marine operations, risk analysis of arctic operations and specific effects that influences design and operations in the Arctic.
