International Day aims to highlight the University of Stavanger both as an international campus and an international institution. In the past few years, we have seen a marked increase in the number of international students at UiS and greater interest in our study programmes in English.
International Day is an event central to Internationalisation @ home at the University of Stavanger. Internationalisation@ Home refers to international events/activities on campus, with the exception of outbound student and staff mobility.
60 countries
The University of Stavanger currently has over 500 international students from 60 different countries. This social gathering with entertainment and food from all corners of the globe will be the perfect opportunity for our international students to present and showcase their countries and cultures.
Another very important aspect of International Day 2009 is to lend greater visibility to the exchange opportunities available to our students. The University of Stavanger has collaborative agreements with universities and colleges all over the world.
Going abroad
On International Day, students interested in going abroad for a semester will have the unique opportunity to meet students who have already been abroad on an exchange programme. International co-ordinators from the faculties will also be present at the event to answer questions from students who wish to enrich their student experience with a stint at a partner university abroad.
In the course of 2009-10, we expect roughly 200 UiS students to travel abroad on exchange programmes. International Day 2009 aims to contribute to an increase in these numbers in the coming years.
Fifth time
International Day is held for the fifth consecutive year. It takes place in the Arne Rettedal building on Tuesday 20th of October, between 12 noon and 2 pm.
