Research prize for Ragnar Tveterås

Professor Ragnar Tveterås at the University of Stavanger has been awarded the 2006 Scana research prize for his many publications and ability to communicate research findings beyond a narrow academic circle.

A business economist, Professor Tveterås works in the department for industrial economics, risk management and planning. His research focuses particularly on aquaculture and seafood markets.

In its citation for the award, the Scana jury notes that he has produced a substantial number of publications in recent years, including 17 articles in international scientific publications.

At the same time, he makes his research useful to the community and highlights such activity at the UiS beyond the academic community.

His works include about 300 popular science articles in recent years, for instance, and he is in great demand as a lecturer.

Active
Professor Tveterås is also active in relation to the authorities and to private decision-makers in the seafood industry, regionally, nationally and internationally.

Scana thereby concludes that his ability to combine research with dissemination to industrial players makes him a valuable contributor to his subject.

Stimulate
Presented biennially by Scana Industrier, the NOK 20 000 prize aims to stimulate research activity in the faculty of science and technology at the UiS.

The prize was presented recently at a graduation ceremony for MSc students in technology and engineering at the university.
In his acceptance speech, Professor Tveterås urged this audience to consider a research career at the UiS.

- We offer a good environment for such work, he said.

- That offers many opportunities to develop as a researcher, and you get good support from the leadership.

Food

Food is a subject which can be approached from many angles, including biology, chemistry, economics, company development and health, and is a priority area for research at the UiS.

This work aims to acquire, process and develop knowledge in order to establish a research community with a high international standing.

Research is pursued through a collaboration between various faculties at the UiS, regional research institutes and industrial players.
