A permanent research group has now been established on the basis of these programmes, which is developing a major research programme on the relationship between changes in family structure, family functions and the changed position and legal status of children, and developments in public involvement in children’s upbringing as represented by local authority and central government child care provision.
Several participants in the group are already working on PhD theses and other research projects which contribute to this subject.
Plans call for the development of an externally-funded research programme which integrates these projects and for more sub-projects in the group’s principal area of interest.
