Big activity ahead of ESREL 2007

The European Safety and Reliability Conference (ESREL), the continent’s most important meeting in its field, will be hosted in 2007 by the University of Stavanger. Papers are already pouring in from all over the world.

“We’ve so far received more than 450 abstracts,” reports Terje Aven, professor of risk management at the UiS and chair of the conference.

“The full text of each paper is due to be submitted before Christmas, so we face an extensive assessment process over the next few months.”

“We expect to have about 350 papers ready for printing by April.”

Before these submissions can be included in the conference proceedings, however, they must pass through a broad reviewing process.

“We have to deal with several hundred people. Communication between all the authors, the assessors and the organiser has been concentrated in a web-based system. Post. Doc. Eirik B. Abrahamsen has an important role here. “He is doing a great job in ensuring that this system works,” explains Aven.

ESREL covers a broad spectrum within its subject area, from risk analysis to health, safety and environmental culture, and reliability.

These aspects are viewed in relation to different industrial areas and applications, ranging from the oil and gas sector to infrastructure, transport and health.
