    Digital teaching

How can one teach students who hide behind their PCs and switch between Word, Facebook, Wikipedia and Twitter? An ordinary day for teachers has been completely transformed during the last five to ten years. Reading research at the University of Stavanger has examined the complete transformation of the classroom which has taken place over the last 5-10 years.

Bullying in order to win friends

    Zeroing in on school bullies

The Zero programme on bullying at the University of Stavanger’s Centre for Behavioural Research could become an export product after being tried out in Norwegian schools. Mexicans, Colombians and Spaniards may be next in line to adopt it.

    Reading the answers

An intercontinental study of twins has indicated that reading difficulties among children may be genetically determined. Nurture plays a far smaller role than scientists have previously thought.

School and learning

School and Learning is a prioritized research area at UiS.

It questions the very foundation of the development of knowledge societies.

School and Learning projects study different age groups, from early childhood to adolescence, to students and their teachers and also includes professional workers. Projects can have a micro or macro perspective, a local or global, or a historic or futuristic.

Research projects question child development and children’s well being in daycare, nurseries and schools.

They question subjects and the pedagogy of teaching, learning environments and learning potentials, special needs, and relationships between education and work.

Projects can study organizations’ change processes, interventions and implementation, and some projects result in research based material or programs to be used in nurseries, schools and higher education.
