Admission process and calendar

Applying to university can be both exciting and stressful with many details to think about. Below you will find information about the admission process at the University of Stavanger.

International students can only enrol for studies at the University of Stavanger once a year, in August.

1 February 2018
The application forms are published on the websites of the respective study programmes.

1 March 2018
Application deadline for Master's programmes and Norwegian Language and Culture programme.

March & April 2018
Qualified applications will be processed by an admission committee at the faculty.

May 2018
The admission process will be completed in May, or earlier. The application outcome will be sent out via e-mail only.

If you are granted admission, you should immediately contact the Norwegian Embassy or Consulate in your home country regarding obtaining a study permit (visa).

Non EU/EEA citizens who need a study permit (visa) must transfer the required amount to the SiS Student Deposit Account as soon as possible after receiving admission, and no later than 1 June. 

Students interested in student accommodation must apply within the deadline stated in the Letter of Admission.

August 2018
Orientation Week for newly admitted students take place (mandatory attendance). The programme will be published online in advance.

1 September 2018
Deadline to register as a student at the University of Stavanger. Students who have not received their visa in time or arrive delayed to Stavanger are not permitted to enrol at the University of Stavanger after 1 September.


Should you apply as a local or international applicant?

Local applicants

  • Applicants who live in Norway and have a Norwegian ID number (fødselsnummer) must apply as a local applicant through local admissions, regardless of citizenship and educational background.
  • Applicants with a citizenship from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland or Iceland also need to apply as a local applicant.  
  • Local applicants who apply as an international applicant through the International Office will not be considered.

International applicants

  • Applicants without a Norwegian ID number (except citizens from Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland) must apply as an international applicant through the International Office.
