The department offers exchange students the possibility to better understand how the Nordic countries work for gender equality and how this policy area is linked to family policies, work-life policies, social policies and in general the Nordic welfare state regimes.

The Department of Social studies offers opportunities for exchange students from our partner institutions on both bachelor and master level.


Social Work and Child Welfare

Bachelor level

For English and Scandinavian speaking students we offer field education placement for both social work, social pedagogy and child welfare students. Depending on the need of the sending institution's program we can offer field placement comprising of 10, 20 or 30 ECTS, in both semesters.

Courses within the Nordic Master in Social work and Welfare
The Department of Social Studies gives exchange students from partner institutions the opportunity to sign up for some of the courses that are part of the Nordic Master in Social Work and Welfare. Students learn about Nordic Welfare Models, welfare transition, innovation and user participation in an international classroom and develop new perspectives and understandings of the field of social work in a global perspective.

This Master programme has been developed by the University of Stavanger (Norway), Umeå University (Sweden) and Aalborg University (Denmark).

Autumn semester


Courses within the European Master in Social Work with Families and Children
The Department of Social Studies gives exchange students from partner institutions the opportunity to sign up for some of the courses that are part of the Erasmus Mundus programme MFAMILY. Students gain knowledge and skills needed when working with interventions for vulnerable children and marginalized families.

This Master programme has been developed by the University Institute of Lisbon (Portugal), the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), the University of Stavanger (Norway) and Makerere University (Uganda). It builds upon a first degree such as a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification in a related field (e.g. Social Work, Sociology).
