Petroleum geosciences engineering/petroleumsgeologi - Master of Science

The Master of Science in Petroleum geosciences engineering/ petroleumsgeologi has been developed in close collaboration with the oil industry and the petroleum engineering programme.

The study will educate you in subjects like Depositional Systems and Sequence Stratigraphy, Geostatistics and Reservoir Modelling, Structural Styles and Basin Analysis, Mathematic Modelling, Decision Analysis, Geostatistics and Reservoir Modelling, Seismic Reflection Methods, Applied Geosciences Methods, Seismic Interpretation and Formation Evaluation, Seismic Amplitude Analysis and Inversion - in addition to some elective subjects and the Master Thesis.

Career opportunities
You will be qualified for applying for a broad range of positions within the oil industry, both operators and service companies. The programme also qualifies for other industry or institutes where geosciences are applied such as construction, geo-environmental, mining, underground water and governmental companies.

A complete master degree in Petroleum Geosciences Engineering may qualify for admission to the PhD programme in Petroleum technology and geosciences at the University of Stavanger.

 

Bachelor degree in Petroleum Geosciences Engineering from the University of Stavanger or equivalent. What we consider equivalent is a geosciences and/or engineering bachelor degree with preferable 30 study points in mathematics and/or statistics, and 25 study points in geosciences (geology and/or geophysics).
