Studied at the Universities of Bergen, Oslo, Uppsala, Aix-en-Provence and Paris (1978-1986). Graduated from the University of Bergen in 1986. Has held positions at the University of Bergen (1986-1995), the University College of Stavanger (1995-1998) and Université Marc Bloch, Strasbourg, France (1998-2002). Prof. Nicolaysen has taught Scandinavian Literature, European Civilization, History and Theory of the Human Sciences, Didactics of Communication and Languages, Art History, Cultural Theory and Cultural Politics and Second Language Learning (Norwegian for French speaking students). He was a Professor of Scandinavian Literature in Stavanger in 2000 and has been a professor in Literacy Studies in Stavanger since 2002. He has Has published mostly within literary criticism and history of texts, hermeneutics, rhetorics and theory of science. Present interests: The Modern Project and Counter-Enlightenment ca. 1750-1800; The Sources of Inspiration: Reading, Writing and Talking in the Visual Arts.
