Environmental Technology - Master of Science Degree Programme
With a Master's Degree in Environmental Technology there will be plenty of opportunities to work within the most challenging and interesting fields in both offshore and onshore companies.
We aim to provide motivated students with knowledge and skills necessary to become responsible water managers and engineers. Students that want to pursue a career in the oil and gas industry can choose the specialization in Offshore Environmental Engineering. The philosophy of this programme is to combine courses in offshore oil and gas exploration, production technologies and environmental management.
The programme is suited for students that are interested in practical technological and administrative competences for sound environmental management in the offshore industries.
The specialization in Water Science and Technology is offered students that want to focus on aquatic chemistry and ecology, and technologies for water and wastewater treatment. Being more natural science and research based, the programme provides students with fundamental and advanced competances in aquatic chemistry, environmental biotechnology and water process engineering.
The Master study has two specialization directions – Offshore Environmental Engineering and Water Science and Technology.
The target group is:
- Students who have completed a 3-year Bachelor's degree in engineering or a similar degree within chemistry.
- Students with a relevant technical university background and applicants with documented relevant experience.
- Applicants who have been working for a few years as engineers and wish to take further education. Relevant practice will also be weighted.
The study is at higher grads level, with a duration of two years and a total scope of 120 credits.
Both specializations are based on taught courses that include compulsory and elective subjects.
Career opportunities
Master of Science in Environmental Technology qualifies for positions in governmental and private research institutions, public and private environmental management and technical consultancies, and for positions as environmental engineers within industry.
The programme also qualifies graduates for admission to the PhD programme in Offshore Technology or Biological Chemistry offered at the University of Stavanger:
The Study Plan and details concerning MSc in Environmental Technology can be found below. Information about admission procedure and application form can be found by following the links in the column on the right.
Please note that the course combination below is valid for current academic year. Course combination for 2011-2012 will be published in June 2011.
Entry:
Admission requirements for the Master Program in Environmental Technology are a bachelor degree in engineering within the areas of environmental studies, chemistry, biotechnology or corresponding studies. Candidates with a bachelor degree in related areas will also be considered if they have minimum 30 credits of chemistry or similar subjects. All master programmes in technology/civil engineer require 30 credits of mathematics/statistics. For additional information reference is made to: www.uis.no.
Normally, the level of grades of those that are short listed is equivalent to a Second Class Upper Division or better. Applicants with a grade level equivalent to Second Class Lower Division, or lower, will usually not be considered for admission.
