Literacy Studies - Master's Degree Programme

Is the book an endangered species? Are sms-messages destroying the English language? What were medieval books like? How do children learn to read and write? Who was Shakespeare and does it matter? What does reading do to our minds?

The Masters Programme in Literacy Studies offers a unique, cross-disciplinary approach to the subject of literacy: the study of books, reading, writing and the written text. The programme is run entirely in English, and we aim at providing high-quality instruction in a fairly small but dynamic research environment with many international links.

If you have a first degree with English as your main subject (or an educational background that may be seen as equally relevant for the course) and your interest is aroused by at least some of the above questions, our programme might be for you. This website provides information about the contents, admissions, procedures and academic environment of the course. In case you have specific questions to which you cannot find an answer, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

Please note that the course combination below is valid for current academic year. Course combination for 2011-2012 will be published in June 2011.

Entry:

The course normally builds upon a first degree such as the Norwegian Bachelor degree or equivalent, which includes at least 80 sp English, 30 sp of which must be at Higher Level.

80 sp corresponds to 1 1/3 year of full-time study.
