MSc Petroleum Engineering

The Department of Petroleum Engineering at the University of Stavanger is at the forefront of petroleum engineering education worldwide. The MSc degree in Petroleum Engineering is uniquely focused on the specific needs of the upstream petroleum industry. This degree programme will provide participants with a clear advantage in today’s highly competitive, uncertain and dynamic world.

The MSc programme has an international profile and accommodates both Norwegian and international students. University degrees in Petroleum Engineering have been offered by our institution since 1977. The MSc programme prepares students for careers in the international oil and gas industry. Students can avail themselves of the faculty’s close contacts with the industry in their research and focus on the challenges currently being faced by practising petroleum engineers. This programme also provides an excellent basis for doctoral studies for those who wish to pursue a career in education or research.

The admission requirements for the MSc programme in Petroleum Engineering are a bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, or equivalent and an English proficiency test. What we consider equivalent is a closely related engineering field (like Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Geological Engineering) and relevant work experience from the field of Petroleum Engineering. Bachelor´s Degrees in closely related fields will only get prioritized when holding exceptional high level of grades.

Please note that applicants who have completed or are in the process of completing a MSc degree will not be considered for a scholarship. The faculty's policy is to not offer financial support to or to prioritize admission to students under this category.
