Admission requirements for the academic year 2012/2013

A bachelor degree in Petroleum Engineering is required.

Additionally, all candidates have to document on their academic transcript of records at least 30 ECTS (equivalent to a total workload of 50 percent of an academic year) in mathematics/statistics/calculus of probability. Please note that sometimes the courses on transcript of records are given as separate and identifiable courses, while other programmes have these disciplines embedded in other courses. Applicants will have to evaluate their own course portfolio and calculate the aggregated sum of credits in these disciplines and evaluate the number of credits obtained in mathematics/statistics/calculus of probability. Please note that this will also be evaluated by the UiS academic staff members as a part of the application process, thus applicants are urged to critically evaluate and estimate credits realistically.

Since we receive a lot of applications (almost 1000 for 20 study places available in 2011), admission to this programme is very competitive. Normally, the level of grades of those that are short listed is equivalent to a Second Class Upper Division or better (80% out of 100%). Applicants with a grade level equivalent to Second Class Lower Division, or lower, will not be considered for admission.

Please note that applicants who have completed or are in the process of completing an MSc degree will not be considered for a scholarship. The faculty's policy is not to offer financial support or to prioritize admission to students under this category.

English Language Requirements
Proficiency in English is required of all students in Norway. Students who are not native speakers of English, have to document their knowledge of English. Please find detailed information regarding required test and minimum scores here.
