Introduction:
Communication is one of the most central aspects of organizing, whether the focus is on leadership practices, motivating, conveying and implementing decisions, negotiations, or changes. Poorly handled communication is often the source of conflicts and problems in an organization.
Objectives:
After completing this course, the student will:
Know and understand basic principles of organizational communication and be able to apply these in order to communicate more effectively
- Understand the relation between organizational communication and identity
- Recognize and understand central principles of planning and implementing positive internal communication in an organization
- Recognize and understand central principles related to an organization´s strategic communication with its environments, reputation management and crisis communication
- Understand and reflect over central principles of intercultural communication in order to communicate more competently in intercultural contexts
Contents:
The course gives a theoretical introduction to organizational communication, both internal and external. Central themes are organizational culture and organizational identity, leadership communication, public relations, reputation management, and crisis communication. Focus will be on interpersonal and intercultural communication, as well as communication in groups and teams.

Lectures, individual and group assignments, in-class student presentations. The course will be taught in English if there any English-speaking participants.
