Q: When may I apply for a scholarship?
A: Scholarships are only granted to applicants with top grades. There is no separate application form for scholarships. It is an element of the online application forms for each programme.
Q: What are the living costs in Norway for a year?
A: Since there are only a limited number of scholarships for international students, applicants should be willing to apply as self-financing students.
All international applicants from outside the EU/EEA countries, must document financial means for a 10-month academic year, equivalent to full funding by the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund at the current rate. For the academic year 2009-10 this amounts to NOK 87.600 (approx. USD 13.000/ EUR 10.000). Without clear documentation, students will not be eligible for a student residence permit. If you plan to stay for one semester, only half of the amount is required. The amount does not include airfare to and from Norway but includes all living costs once you arrive in Norway (food, housing, books, entertainment, excursions, etc.). With good budgeting skills, this amount should be more than sufficient.
Q: What are the living expenses in Norway?
A: Living expenses in Norway are considered to be higher than in many other European countries. Students should have a minimum of NOK 8 500,- per month for subsistence, which will include housing. Costs incurred for food, recreation and travel will obviously vary according to individual habits and priorities.
Example of a modest budget for one semester:
