Scholarship programme

The Quota Scheme

The Norwegian government offers scholarships for students from developing countries and countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia under the Quota Scheme. The objective of the Quota Scheme is to promote the internationalisation of higher education. Today, the Scheme gives funding to a total of 1100 students, 800 of them from the developing countries and the remainder from Central and Eastern Europe. The University of Stavanger administers 30 scholarships during the period of 2008-2011, and we admit a certain number of quota students each year.

The Quota students receive financial support through the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund, on mainly the same conditions as Norwegian students. Funding is given as grants and loans (about 30% of the amount is given as a grant and 70% as a loan), but their educational loan will be remitted when the students return to their home country to take up permanent residence there after completion or termination of their education. If the students do not return to their country of origin, the loan must be repaid according to the ordinary procedures applicable to the Norwegian students.

Note: The number of available scholarships is limited, and are addressed to candidates from from institutions with formal collaboration agreements with the University of Stavanger.

All study programmes at the University of Stavanger taught in English language are included in the Quota Scheme.
