Norwegian Language and Culture

An intensive 1-year-long course in Norwegian Language and Culture aims to give students the language qualifications to enter Bachelor's and Master's degrees taught in Norwegian at the University of Stavanger.

TARGET GROUP

This full-time course for international students in Norwegian Language and Culture is a preparatory year for students who are applying for Bachelor's and Master's degrees taught in Norwegian at the University of Stavanger.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Students are expected to fulfill the general admission requirements that are described in details in "All you need to know" section (right-hand side of this page).

GENERAL INFORMATION

Admission to the Norwegian Language and Culture programme does not, in itself, make a student eligible for a Norwegian student visa. In order to obtain a visa, students must present evidence that they intend to pursue further studies in Norway. Their application must also include a conditional offer of a place in a study programme for the following year. Please note that NOMSA is not a typical language course but should be considered a "freshman year". Those students who intend to pursue further studies at the University of Stavanger where the language of instruction is Norwegian will be given priority. Please note that we will not prioritise students who already have many years of academic education and hold a Bachelor's/Master's degree. Please note that learning a foreign language is always a challenge and demands your full attention during the academic year. Therefore, the presence at all the classes is obligatory and students are adviced to devote a lot of time to self-studies. You cannot combine these studies with work.

Detailed information regarding the course outline can be found under the link below:

Norwegian Language, Culture and Society for International Students - 1-year programme

LEVEL

The course is meant for students who do not have any knowledge of Norwegian and will therefore start at a beginner’s level. Upon completion of the course, students should be able to either study or work in Norway in a Norwegian language environment. During the 1st level of the course the language of instruction will partly be English, this will slowly change during the 2nd level. The 3rd level of the programme will be taught entirely in Norwegian.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Please note that there are no scholarships available for the Norwegian Language and Culture Programme!
