Doctoral Committees

In April 2004 four Doctoral Committees were established. One Institutional Doctoral Committee and one committee for each of the three faculties.

The Institutional Doctoral Committee will:

  • take superior decisions concerning research training at an institutional level
  • advice and coordinate across subject areas and programmes
  • monitor, guarantee quality assurance and report
  • work out and administer superior rules, common guide lines and routines
  • propose division of ressources between subject areas and programmes
  • develop professional joint elements of the institutional research training
  • establish routines for appointment of committees and completion of disputations
  • develop good tutorial possibilities for the PhD students

The Doctoral Committees of the three faculties are responsible for research training at their respective faculties. This implies:

  • organizing and following up the practical accomplishment of research training at their field
  • admission of PhD students and assuring the contracting between the specialist environment and the student
  • approval of tutors and final programme of study
  • following up the advancement of PhD students admitted to the institution's own PhD programmes, as well as PhD candidates at the faculty aiming at a PhD at other institutions
  • nomination of doctoral commitees and determination of topic for trial lectures
  • determining cases concerning individual PhD students
  • reporting to the faculty
  • advicing the Dean in research training related matters
