Weight will be given throughout the programme to illuminating the many connections between the various subjects, so that the student acquires an overall understanding – both theoretical and practical – of music as an art form.
The programme is particularly aimed at students who have ambitions to become professional musicians. Students who choose the four-year degree with teacher training will be qualified for a wide range of jobs within the cultural sector. The teacher training module will normally be taken during the third and fourth year of the degree. This module can also be taken as an independent study programme for students who have already completed a bachelor's degree.
Practical teacher training in music and dance
The course for subject teachers in music or dance is designed for graduates of the three-year programme in these subjects, and is taken part-time over two years.
Teaching practice is often organised in the classroom, but can also take the form of various projects, presentations and seminars. Practical teacher training in music and dance qualifies for teaching jobs at the intermediate and secondary stages in compulsory schooling, in further education, in local authority cultural colleges and various types of voluntary cultural activity.
