Petroleum engineering

The following programmes are taught in Norwegian language. Beside the academic requirements, the Norwegian language requirements have to be fulfilled to be granted admission.

Petroleum engineering – one-year conversion programme
The one-year conversion programme in petroleum engineering is a supplementary course (60 ECTS) which provides specialist expertise for graduates of the two- or three-year engineering programmes in other lines of engineering study. It is targeted primarily at students who want a master’s degree in petroleum engineering and who have a different background through their earlier bachelor of engineering studies.
The course content will often have a lot in common with the third year of the corresponding engineering programme (bachelor in petroleum engineering).

Petroleum engineering – master’s degree programme – five years
The five-year master’s degree in petroleum engineering (300 ECTS) is based on the 3+2 model, whereby students admitted to the programme first complete a three-year bachelor’s degree in petroleum technology (which see) in the same classes as the bachelor’s degree students, before continuing with the two-year master’s degree section in the same classes as students admitted to the two-year technology/engineering master’s degree programme in petroleum engineering.
The bachelor’s degree component yields 180 ECTS and the master’s degree 120 ECTS.

Petroleum engineering - bachelor’s degree programme - three years
The bachelor’s degree programme in petroleum technology (180 ECTS) builds on a good foundation in mathematics and natural sciences, which are necessary tools for mastering subjects covered by the discipline.
Such base subjects accordingly dominate at the start of the course, with petroleum technology topics gradually acquiring a larger place. The aim is that graduates will master the key areas of knowledge required for engineering jobs in the oil companies and the service industry on land and offshore, both in Norway and internationally.
