Educational theory and practice

Educational theory and practice (PPU) is an advanced course which will provide teaching competence for graduates.

Depending on the degree subject, the teaching qualification applies for the intermediate and secondary stages of compulsory schooling and/or further and adult education.

The course of study builds on the prevailing national framework plan and regulations for practical-pedagogical education. It corresponds to 60 ECTS, or one year of normal study. The part-time course is taken over two years.

The course includes 30 ECTS of pedagogy as a core subject for all students, and 30 ECTS of subject teaching. It incorporates 12-14 weeks of supervised teaching practice.

In order to be qualified for admission, students must generally have completed three years of higher education/180 ECTS credits in a field of study that is relevant as a school subject. Students with a vocational degree, such as nursing or engineering, must have worked for at least two years in their profession after completing their first degree in order to be qualified for admission. Students are advised that a good grasp of the Norwegian language is required in order to successfully complete this programme.
