Social science – one-year programme

The one-year social science programme (60 ECTS) covers themes drawn from history, geography and social science, and builds on the framework plan for general teacher training adopted by the Ministry of Education and Research in 2003. The course also adheres to the curriculum for compulsory primary and secondary schools.

As science subjects, these themes are concerned with a broad understanding of the community through relationships in time (history) and space (geography) and between system, structure and function (social science).
In a school context, social science faces the challenge of encouraging young people not only to understand society but also to become involved in it.

Central themes in this programme are social change, migration and intercultural relations, conflict/conflict resolution, globalisation and didactics.

The programme is suited for those who want to teach social science as a subject in schools, or anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the Norwegian society in a broader context.
