Short CV

Dimitrios Pavlou is Professor of Mechanics at the University of Stavanger in Norway and Academician of the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences. He has had over twenty years of teaching and research experience in the fields of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Fracture Mechanics, Finite and Boundary Elements, Structural Dynamics, Anisotropic Materials, and their applications in Offshore Structures for Oil and Gas production. Professor Pavlou is the author of the books "Essentials of the Finite Element Method" (Elsevier), "Advanced Mechanics of Solids and Structures" (CRC, to be published), "Composite Materials in Piping Applications" (Destech Publications),  "Computational and Experimental Analysis of Damaged Materials" (Research Signpost) and co-editor of four international conference proceedings. His research portfolio includes over 100 publications in the areas of Applied Mechanics and Engineering Mathematics. In most of them he is solo author or principal researcher. Since January 2020 Prof. Pavlou has joined the editorial board of the journal "Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering" which is rank as 1st of 132 journals in Civil Engineering and has the highest impact factor 8.552. He is also associate editor or member of the editorial board in 5 international journals, and reviewer of over 26 ones. He has been conference chair and has participated as a plenary speaker and session chair in many international conferences. In 2015-2019 Prof. Pavlou was the Discipline Leader for "Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science" and Study Program Leader for the MSc program "Constructions and Materials", the BSc program "Mechanical Engineering", and the double degree MSc program "Offshore Field Development" between University of Stavanger and Gubkin Oil and Gas State University of Moscow. In the same period, he was the coordinator of the Norwegian module of the TWIN program in Mechanical Engineering of the European Consortium of Innovative universities (ECIU) and in 2017-2019 he was the project coordinator of the UTFORSK program, funded by the Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Education (DIKU), devoted in Offshore and Ocean technology in Arctic Environment. He has created the MSc specialization "Renewable Energy" in the MSc program in "Constructions and Materials" and the new courses OFF650 "Offshore Engineering in the Arctic", and OFF700 "Aspects in Offshore Technology in Arctic Environment". In the last 20 years he has been the project coordinator or member of the research team in important EU projects.
