Publishing fund at UiS

It is a goal at UiS that more research should be published Open Access. Therefore, a publishing fund has been established to cover expenses in connection with this.

The intention is that a greater proportion of the articles published at UiS should follow the model for open publication called Open Access. At the university board meeting on 18th of April 2012, a general obligation to deliver a "post-print" version of articles to the University's open archive UiS Brage was adopted. To publish in Open Access journals is a continuation of this.

Open Access publishing in scientific journals often requires the author to pay a publication fee, a so-called "article processing charge" (APC). This fee replaces the subscription fees that are the mainstay of todays' system. These subscriptions fees are often disproportionately expensive, and prices are rising steadily.

Therefore, UiS has established a fund to support Open Access publishing. The fund is managed by the University library. It will cover APCs in journals that provide immediate Open Access. The lead author (corresponding author) must be associated with UiS. We ask everyone wishing to apply for funding to carefully study the guidelines for allocation:

Say no to predatory journals!
It may be appropriate to once again remind everyone that so-called predatory journals must be avoided. In February the library published this article about this phenomenon. The Publishing fund will not provide support for articles in such journals.
