Pre Hospital Emergency Medical Care År 1 / Semester 1
This course aims to give the students knowledge of state-of-the-art pre hospital management of the patients of different ages with non-traumatic medical emergencies. Moreover, the course aims to make students acquainted with scientific literature and interpretation of research data relevant to pre-hospital critical care. Finally, the course should stimulate students to challenge established concepts and to develop research and quality management projects relevant to their work in EMS.
Proficiency in pre-hospital critical care will be based on the comprehension of the physiologic and pathophysiologic background as well as of current scientific evidence and, subsequently best clinical practice in specific areas of emergency medicine.

Master Thesis in Pre Hospital Critical Care År 1 / Semester 2
The master thesis is an independent scientific work on a selected topic within Pre-hospital Critical Care. The aim of the thesis is to further develop the competence the student has acquired previously in the master program. The topic must be based on medical and health science, and discussed in relation to relevant literature. Research design must show scientific method for collecting and analysing relevant data within the field, and be in accordance with research ethics.
Through the work on the thesis, the student will, on a theoretical and / or empirical basis, further develop the competence acquired through the other parts of the master program. Upon completion of the master's program, the student will be eligible for admission to PhD studies.
A student guideline is available for the writing of the Master thesis in Pre-hospital Critical Care (30sp).

Philosophy of Science, Health Care Ethics and Human Rights År 1 / Semester 2
The course explores themes and issues in general philosophy of science and in the specific philosophy of science within the health care profession.
Additionally this course aims to develop the students conceptual understanding of clinical ethics and skills in applying this understanding to ethical dilemmas encountered in their professional practice.
International human rights with relevance to the students' everyday professional life will be explored.

Traumatology in Pre Hospital Critical Care År 1 / Semester 2
This course aims to provide the students with knowlede of state-of-the-art management of the patient with severe trauma according to their professional role. This will be achieved through the comprehension of the scientific evidence in specific areas in traumatology, the ability to discuss and apply state-of-the-art treatment and assess and discuss different trauma management systems.

Major Incidents: Medical Management and Preparedness År 2 / Semester 4
This course aims to make the students proficient in both the theoretical and the practical application of the interdisciplinary principles of major incident managment. This includes epidemiology and reporting after major incidents for structured analyses. Further, to be a reflective practitioner enabled to prepare the management of future major incidents in their own emergency medical service (EMS) catchment area.

We have all had experiences as patient or next of kin in relation to different types of healthcare services. This course is about how patient safety can be understood, explained and maintained when a patient is in need of healthcare services. The aim of the course is to give students the knowledge, skills, and analytical capacity to understand the important preconditions necessary for achieving a high level of safety in healthcare (in theory and practice).

Pre Hospital Anaesthesia and Transport Medicine År 2 / Semester 3
This course aims to introduce the students to the challenges and specific features of prehospital anaesthesia. Anaesthesia trained personnel should after this course have deeper knowledge about specifics of prehospital anaesthesia to safely provide this in prehospital critical care. Non-anaesthesia trained personnel should after this course be able to safely assist in the provision of prehospital anaesthesia and contribute to safe anaesthesia practice. Also, this course aims to provide the student with a theoretical framework for the acquisition of a range of clinical skills relevant to the transport of critically ill or injured patients leading towards competence in managing transports in pre-hospital critical care.
This proficiency will be based on the comprehension of the latest scientific evidence and the current best practice in specific areas of critical emergency medicine. Moreover, the ability to apply high quality assessment and treatment to these patients and the ability to analyse, discuss and reflect upon current guidelines, standard operating procedures and knowledge within this field of practice, both on an individual and a system level.
