Protein Biochemistry is one of the rapidly expanding areas in the biological sciences today. This course teaches about the structure and function of proteins and provides training in selected laboratory methods and technologies in protein biochemistry.

Learning outcome

Focus is on the structures and functions of proteins in biochemistry. Scientific concepts and principles for investigation of proteins in biochemistry are discussed. The most frequently used scientific instruments and protocols are presented. Background informations about daily work in a laboratory are presented, and the interpretation of data in a biochemistry laboratory is taught.

Laboratory training

Laboratory assignments are mandatory. Assignments are completed as published during the course. Deadlines and group allocations apply. Absence due to illness or other reasons must be communicated to the laboratory personnel as soon as possible. Provisions for lab assignments at other times as published can only be made upon written agreement with the course responsible.

Failure to complete laboratory work or receive approval of submitted reports within published deadlines will result in barring from taking the final course exam.

Method of work

4 hours lectures/seminars/workgroups per week and a mandatory lab course. Mandatory work such as lab reports should be approved by the course teacher at least 3 weeks before the final exam.
