The course is based on BIO310 "Concepts and Molecular Mechanisms in Normal and Cancer Cells" and continues describing stem cells, telomers in cell immortalization/cell crisis and tumor progression and invasion. In addition, the different interactions between cells like heterotypic interactions and angiogenesis, and specifically the immune system, are discussed, as well as the dual role of immune mechanisms in pathogenesis. The course also deals with molecular defence mechanisms like DNA repair as well as mutagenesis.

Learning outcome

It is expected that the student has obtained enough knowledge to discuss important molecular and cellular mechanisms important to normal cell biology and cancer

Contents

The course discusses epigenetics, stem cells, molecular and cellular immunology, heterotypic interactions and angiogenesis, DNA repair and mutagenesis, telomerase and cell crisis and tumor progression/invasion/metastasis.
