The course contains advanced literature searching in organic chemistry, and will give a thorough study of the literature and a focused topic relevant for the PhD-study. The candidate should identify the research frontier in the field and give a critical review of relevant literature within the topic.

Learning outcome

The candidate will master advanced literature searching in dedicated databases, critical reading and comparison of different sources, scientific use of references and demands for scientific publishing; and obtain a deep and active knowledge about the research frontier of the selected topic.


The course contains searching for relevant literature, comparison of data from different research papers and writing a report in form of a review paper.

Required prerequisite knowledge

The subject demands solid knowledge in organic chemistry.

Recommended previous knowledge

Knowledge corresponding to a master's degree in organic chemistry.

Course assessment

Through questionnaires or conversation in pursuance of current guidelines.


Selected literature in form of book chapters and research papers. The work is expected to cover at least 300 pages of primary literature and result in more than 50 references.
