The clinical practice period has a duration of 8-10 weeks. Application and integration of theoretical knowledge in the practice of nursing, development of practical nursing skills, communication and interaction with patients, their relatives and co-workers shall give a better insight into areas of specialist health care.
Assessment of the student`s practical skills shall be done based on the University`s objectives, the student`s written plan for the study period and documentation of the student`s own learning process.
The Contact Nurse, student and teacher participate in and have responsibility for carrying out the assessment.
The student is entitled to continuous supervision/assessment from the Contact Nurse and teacher such that she/he is informed about her/his functional level according to the objectives of the study period. The assessment is both oral and written.
The study period is assessed as "Pass"/"Fail" after a total assessment of the student`s study effort. The result is set by the Faculty of Health Sciences in close collaboration with the placement institution.
About halfway through and at the end of the study period, the student`s study progress is summarised and this assessment result is entered on a separate form. The form is designed in accordance with objectives for clinical practice 3rd year. The Assessment Form is available at the Faculty of Health Sciences` home page.
If, during the study period, there is doubt about the student fulfilling the objectives and receiving a "Pass" grade, the student shall be so advised in writing as soon as possible and no later than three weeks before the end of clinical practice.
Should the student, despite satisfactory progress at mid-assessment, demonstrate unacceptable clinical practice (during the last three weeks) before completed clinical practice, the above regulation will not be a hindrance to assessing the clinical practice to the grade "Fail".
The forms for mid- and final assessments are filled by the Faculty of Health Sciences. The student receives copies of these.
