The clinical practice period has a duration of 12-13 weeks. Application and integration of theoretical knowledge in the practical practice of nursing, development of practical nursing skills, communication and interaction with patients, relatives and co-workers shall give a better insight into areas of specialist health care.
Assessment of the student´s practical skills will be carried out from the objectives of the student's written plan for the study period and documentation of the student's own learning process at the university.
The mentor, student and professor participate in and have responsibility for carrying out the assessment.
The student is entitled to continuous supervision/assessment from the mentor and professor from the university such that she/he is informed of her/his functional level according to the objectives of the study period. The assessment is both oral and written.
The study periods in the semesters are assessed as Pass/Fail following a full assessment of the student's study effort. The assessment is done in collaboration with the placement.
About halfway through and at the end of the study period, the student's study progress is summarised and the result of the assessment is done on a separate form. The form is being made in accordance with objectives for clinical practice 3rd year. The Assessment Form is available on the Faculty of Social Sciences University of Stavanger home page.
If, during the study period, there is doubt about the student fulfilling the objectives and receiving a Pass grade, the student shall be advised in writing as soon as possible and no later than three weeks before the end of clinical practice.
Should the student, despite satisfactory progress at mid-assessment, demonstrate unacceptable clinical practice (during the last three weeks) before completed clinical practice, the above regulation will not be a hindrance to assessing the clinical practice as a fail.
The mid- and final assessment forms are filed out at the placements in collaboration with the Department of Health Studies.
USE OF ASSESSMENT FORMS
The purpose of the Assessment Form is to express to what extent the objectives of the clinical studies are fulfilled. This will also be instructive and helpful for the student's further course of study.
Within every main area of nursing (1-5), there are areas for indicating whether the objectives are "Approved" or not. In addition, written remarks shall be made which emphasise the student's areas of mastering and growth.
