About the Department of Mechanical and Structural Engineering and Materials Science.

Kjølv Egelands hus på UiS Campus Ullandhaug

The department is focusing on mechanical and civil disciplines, including the petroleum and renewable energy sectors.

The students will be qualified to take over challenging careers in industry in a broad capacity, inclusive of design and robust engineering of complex systems, developing and implementing new technology, methods and principles for optimization of engineering systems, etc.

IMBM's employees are divided into four professional groups, and the department’s expertise are:

  • Civil and Structural engineering
  • Mechanical design, production and simulation
  • Marine and Subsea technology
  • Industrial Asset Management

Department of Mechanical and Structural Engineering and Materials Science offers study programs at bachelor's, master's and Ph.d level. There are two master's programs in marine and subsea technology that are international, and half of the students at these programs are internationhal.

Department of Mechanical and Structural Engineering and Materials Science offers several studies at bachelor, master's or Ph.d level.

Master of Science in Marine and Offshore Technology

This Master of Science Programme in Marine and Offshore Technology is designed to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in the marine and offshore industry. Taught in English.

Master of Science in Engineering Structures and Materials

This Master of Science Programme in Engineering Structures and Materials will provide students with an expertise and advanced knowledge, skills and general competence in Mechanical and Structural Engineering and Materials Science through the following four specializations: Mechanical systems, renewable energy, civil engineering structures, offshore structures. Taught in English.

Master of Science in Industrial Asset Management

Industrial Asset Management is a multidisciplinary programme, which combines your engineering knowledge with important management skills. Taught in English.

Offshore Technology - PhD

Offshore Technology is a subfield within the doctoral programme in Science and Technology at UiS. The subfield has specialisations in civil and offshore structural engineering, mechanical engineering and materials science, marine and subsea technology, and industrial asset management. The doctoral programme is linked to the research within each of these specialisations.

Double Master Degree Programme in Offshore Field Development Technology

This study is well suited to those who have an interest on a technical educational programme combining engineering disciplines with important offshore field development, Arctic and subsea technology topics.

This is a double-master-degree programme jointly between University of Stavanger and Gubkin Russian State

University of Oil and Gas, Moscow in Offshore Field Development. The students in this programme will study in both universities.
