A strong and international environment in dance

The dance programme in Stavanger is characterized by a strong and international academic environment with a focus on contemporary dance. Everyone in the faculty has specialised expertise in various areas of dance art and is active as a performer, choreographer, teacher and/or researcher. Our team consists of one professor, three associate professors, and five university lecturers who work to prepare students for a professional career as performing and co-creative dance artists.

Our study programmes

The dance programme offers the degree programmes Bachelor in Dance (180 ECTS) and Master's Degree in Performing Arts, Dance (120 ECTS). The Bachelor in Dance is a three-year programme focusing on contemporary dance. The programme prepares you for a professional career as a performing and co-creating dance artist, or for further studies in dance. In the two-year master’s programme, we want you to develop your individual artistic profile and advance your insight and skills to a professional level. Independent Project in Dance (30 ECTS) is a single course which you can specialise in a particular topic, focusing on your own independent work while receiving close guidance from an academic supervisor throughout the process.

Bjergsted Culture Park

Our campus is located in specially adapted facilities in Bjergsted Park, where students and staff have access to several dance studios, changing rooms with showers, lecture and meeting rooms, a black box, concert hall, IT room, a university library branch specializing in music and dance, and a cafeteria.

In addition, there are several cultural institutions nearby that have a close collaboration with the faculty. In Bjergsted, there is a cultural school, an MDD specialization at Stavanger Cathedral School, and Stavanger Concert Hall, where the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra is based. Other important partners are RIMI/IMIR and RAS.
