Concert at St. Petri church
Welcome to a jazz concert with Thomas Torstrup, Eva Bjerga Haugen, and the Bjergsted Jazz Ensemble at St. Petri Church on 7 November at 8pm.
For many years, jazz pianist and organist Thomas Torstrup has drawn inspiration from the hymn tradition, often improvising around well-known melodies. Over time, he has also composed numerous arrangements of hymns and folk tunes, and has long aspired to create a concert featuring new interpretations of hymns for a larger ensemble.
This concert marks the beginning of an exciting new collaboration with the Bjergsted Jazz Ensemble – a project-based orchestra affiliated with the Faculty of Performing Arts at the University of Stavanger – featuring star vocalist Eva Bjerga Haugen as soloist.
You can look forward to hearing many familiar melodies in a completely new format, enriched with rhythmic drive, spontaneous expression, interplay, and improvisation.
