A driving force for knowledge development
Stavanger University Library is the most important academic library in the region and will actively support the University of Stavanger in reaching its goals. Through good service at every level, we will provide services and resources that strengthen the quality of education and research.
We will:
- help students succeed in their studies and complete their degree programs
- teach students how to find and evaluate information for studies, research, and teaching
- provide access to updated knowledge and information
- offer inspiring study spaces and good learning environments every day of the week, 24/7
- provide strong services within open research and publishing
- offer relevant courses and tools that make studying and work more efficient
- provide helpful support and professional services
- create access to academic and social meeting places

1. Ensure access to relevant and quality-assured resources
We will support quality in education and research by actively sharing updated knowledge with our users.
We will be an attractive place to work and study. We will continuously improve our library services and ensure that all users have access to reliable and relevant research literature and services.
We will:
- increase access to relevant and updated resources and collections in all academic fields at UiS, both digitally and physically
- continuously improve our systems to make it easier to find materials and ensure a good user experience
- actively communicate and share quality-assured and updated knowledge with our users
- strengthen cooperation with other libraries and participate in professional networks
2. Strengthen the quality of research and research communication
We will help strengthen research quality at the university so that UiS can achieve its goals in research and artistic development work.
In cooperation with the faculties, we will guide, evaluate, and recommend tools, and organize activities and research communication events that help researchers publish and share their research. The goal is to create space for discussion and reflection while also increasing the visibility of the university in the region.
We will:
- support UiS environments in publishing openly, sharing data as openly as possible, and sharing other research results when relevant
- expand our services within research support and publishing
- further develop existing services and create new and innovative services
- be an active and important partner for all academic communities
- provide an independent and interdisciplinary arena for research and knowledge sharing
3. Strengthen the quality of education and learning
Through different services and activities, we will strengthen educational quality, support student learning, and help students complete their assignments successfully..
The university library teaches students how to search for information and work critically with sources through courses and guidance. Through open courses in academic writing and study strategies, students can adapt to student life and develop the academic skills they need to succeed. In our courses and guidance services, we meet students at different levels and support their academic growth and ability to manage everyday study life.
We will:
- offer relevant courses with active learning methods and high-quality teaching
- provide quality-assured guidance
- offer services that strengthen academic skills and support lifelong learning
- develop digital learning resources
- cooperate with academic departments to integrate library courses into regular study programs
4. Further develop an attractive learning and work environment
We will create activities that promote learning and well-being among students. We also want our employees to feel a strong sense of belonging to the library and have good opportunities for professional development.
It is important for us to be friendly and welcoming and to help users make effective use of our resources and services. We will provide attractive study and reading spaces and adapt to changing user needs. The library will also contribute to communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and idea development in the region.

5. Make the library’s services known
Stavanger University Library and our services shall be well known among students, staff and other users.
We will make sure that students and staff at UiS are aware of our activities, academic guidance, access to media, and learning environments. We also want to help people in the region become more familiar with research at UiS.
We will:
- follow the communication plan
- actively promote our services and be visible on social media and other relevant online channels
- increase the visibility of the University Library among staff and students and cooperate with relevant partners both inside and outside the university
