Do you need help with an assignment or exam you’re working on? Come to the Writing Cubes in the library to get feedback on your text.
The cubes are located just behind the help desk in the library at Ullandhaug.
The service is available to all students at UiS.
You can book a session of up to 40 minutes, or drop by during opening hours to see if a 20-minute session is available. Please use your student email when booking.
Bring your assignment and the assignment prompt with you when you come for guidance.
If you have booked a session, we recommend sending your draft to us by email no later than 12:00 (noon) the day before your appointment.

What if I can’t make it? If you are unable to attend a booked guidance session, you must cancel or reschedule using the link you receive in your confirmation email.
How many guidance sessions can I book? As a general rule, you can book up to two sessions per semester, but only one session at a time. You are always welcome to use drop-in guidance.
Who provides the guidance? In the Writing Cubes, guidance is given by student mentors. They have been trained in academic writing and guidance pedagogy by library staff, who also occasionally assist in the guidance. The guidance is general, and you must always follow to the requirements set by your course instructor.
Is it safe to send my assignment by email before the session? Yes, it will only be shared with your mentor.
I have documented dyslexia, can I still get guidance? Yes, simply check the box for dyslexia in the booking form.
I have documented ADHD, can I get help with study strategies? Yes, check the box for ADHD in the booking form.
I have a home exam, can I book guidance? Yes, you can book one guidance session in connection with a home exam. However, you are responsible for making sure you have enough time, considering the duration of the home exam.
Do the mentors have a duty of confidentiality? Yes, they do.

We use the Dysmate dyslexia test for screening to identify reading and writing difficulties and dyslexia. The test is offered to students who have not previously been screened.

Throughout the year, we offer various writing courses for PhD candidates. Every other week during the semester, we also arrange Shut up & write sessions, a chance to get some writing done and meet other PhD candidates.
