About NCCS and EACS
Nordic College of Caring Science (NCCS) is an association of Nordic researchers within Caring Science. The association aims to develop, support and promote Caring Science knowledge nationally and internationally, such as through the Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences, owned by NCCS. NCCS is also connected to the research fund, NCCSF, where association members can apply for research funding. NCCS arranges conferences and seminaries that are open to the public.
The European Academy of Caring Science (EACS) is a European wide, multi-disciplinary organization of researchers, educators and practitioners who aim to improve patient care and outcomes through caring science. Our mission is threefold; 1) to be recognized as a prominent body of leaders in the field of Caring Science in Europe, 2) to provide a resource of expertise and knowledge related to improving health and care through the cultivation of caring science and 3) to engage in collaborative activities between members that will further the synthesis and development of a body of knowledge in caring science.
Background
We live in a time where care is challenged with health services facing major changes. The population is aging, and new treatment methods are constantly being developed, which require knowledge of complex solutions. Practitioners need expertise, technological development, and the ability to adapt. If the health service is to succeed in the future, alongside embracing new developments, the multi-professional team need to hold on to our commitment to practice in a caring manner.

Keynote speakers
Their expertise, insights, and groundbreaking ideas will undoubtedly enrich our understanding and empower us to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
Ingvil Hellstrand is associate professor in gender studies at the Department for Caring and Ethics, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Stavanger, Norway (UiS). Her research interests are storytelling practices and knowledge production, science fiction and feminist posthumanities. Ingvil is currently involved in the interdisciplinary research project Caring Futures: Developing Care Ethics for Technology-Mediated Care Practices as lead of the work package Imaginaries of care robots and other technobodies, bringing together science fiction as method, technologies of care, and posthuman ethics.
Oddgeir Synnes is Professor of Health Humanities at the Centre for Diaconia and Professional Practice, VID Specialized University, Oslo, Norway. Synnes has a master’s degree in Nordic literature and a PhD in illness narratives and works with applying perspectives from the humanities to healthcare, both through practical projects and in research. His key areas of interest include cultural and narrative gerontology, creative writing (e.g., in cancer care, palliative care and dementia care), literary representations of illness and
narrative inquiry. His recent books are Ways of Home Making in Care for Later Life (Palgrave Macmillan, 2020) co-edited with Bernike Pasveer and Ingunn Moser and A Poetic Language of Ageing (Bloomsbury, 2023) co-edited with Olga V. Lehmann.
Lena Wiklund Gustin is professor in Caring Science at the School of Health, Care and Social welfare, Mälardalen University where she is one of the leaders for the research group Care, Recovery and Health. She also holds a position as a professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences at UiT/The Arctic University of Norway. Her research interests are different aspects of recovery and care within a context of mental health, as well as narrative hermeneutics. She is currently involved in projects concerning caring encounters between ambulance nurses and patients who are in a suicidal process, nurses experiences of stress and caregiving during the Covid-19 pandemic, and a critical interaction project focusing outdoor offices.
