This course is a practical training course where the the student participates in a professional environment outside the university, for example in a company.The student must find a workplace or project that is interested in accepting a student in the company's ongoing work. Internships in a student project must be agreed with the responsible staff of the study program. The course aims to give the student practical experience and to enable immersion into selected topics connected to the company's practice. An agreement between the university and the company, describing tasks and supervision has to be signed.
Learning outcome
The course is a supplement to other courses, and when the student has completed the course, the following lelarning oiucomes should be achieved:
Knowledge:
- Explain work tasks and working methods in the company
- Reflect on the practical challanges n the work life
Skills:
- Increased ability for professional colloboration
- Immersion in given topics and to be able to present these in a convincing way
- Familiarize with assigned work tasks and apply methods from the study to solve these problems
General competence:
- Reflect around own knowledge, learning and team work abilities
- Follow demands and requirements in the working life
Required prerequisite knowledge
Must have completed a minimum of 90 credits according to approved education plan. In addition, the following courses must be passed: BYG140, BYG150, BYG205, BYG200, BYG220, BYG310

Practical training is assessed based on the following criteria:
Report: The student must deliver a critically reflective report on their practical training individually.
Scope of work: The student must spend 250 - 300 working hours on the course in total. The student must submit a signed timesheet together with the report.
No re-sit opportunities are offered on practical training. Students who fail can complete the practical training at the next opportunity, normally the next time the practical training is carried out.
NOTE: According to Regulations relating to studies and examinations at the University of Stavanger section 3-10 point 2, a student has 2 attempts in this course, with the opportunity to apply for a 3rd attempt.
Coursework requirements
The student will give a compulsory oral presentation that must be approved min. 3 weeks prior to submission of report.
