Health Science II: Health Promotion (MHV146)

This course shall provide knowledge about health promotion, co-creation, and social innovation, as well as health psychology and coping with stress. The course is designed to provide knowledge about the importance of participation and influence from individuals and communities in respect of health. It will look more deeply at co-creation and social innovation as perspectives and strategies for service development and integration, health promotion, and public health. It will address knowledge about how health processes can influence people’s lives. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of health literacy, to have control and to cope with circumstances that affect our health.

Content

The contents of this course are based on theories, perspective and empirical research on health promotion, co- creation, social innovation, stress and coping. It will address knowledge on how co-creation and social innovation can help contribute towards service development and integration of health and welfare services, health promotion, and public health. The course will provide in-depth knowledge about health processes that could impact people’s lives, as well as the impact that various ways of coping with stress can have on our health. Emphasis will be placed on approaches, methods and strategies for participation in health and welfare services. 

Learning outcome

Upon completion of this course, the students are expected to have the following knowledge, skills, and competencies.

Knowledge

The candidate:

    • possess a thorough knowledge of the basic theories and strategies relating to health promotion
    • possess a thorough knowledge of theoretical perspectives and approaches for co-creation and social innovation in health and welfare services
    • possess a thorough knowledge of the various traditions and key aspects which apply to stress and coping with stressful life situations

Skills

The candidate:

    • analyse and discuss the connections between health promotion, co-creation, and social innovation
    • analyse and discuss the connections between health and different ways of coping with stress and stressful life situations
    • identify the need for research and service development in areas relating to health promotion, co-creation, and social innovation in health and welfare services

 

General Competence

The candidate:

    • apply relevant knowledge and skills on health promotion, co-creation and social innovation in the health and welfare services
    • communicate and discuss current issues relating to health promotion, co-creation and social innovation in health and welfare services

Students shall individually write a 3,000-word paper (+/- 10%) based on a given text. The exam will be organised as a home exam.

Method of work

The course methods are lectures, group work and individual work on campus and/or digitally. Student-active methodology and dialogue between students and teachers are key components of the course teaching methods .
