Internship (BØK207)

Bachelor students in Business Administration can take an internship in a company or public organization. An internship represents an excellent opportunity to experience the practical challenges of a real work environment while reflecting on how to combine practice and theory.

The internship is available for interested students who fulfill the required requirements. Students are responsible for contacting and obtaining the relevant placement in a private or public sector organization, or other type of organization regarding their internship. Some organizations may offer internship positions mediated through the UiS Business School or the UiS "oppgave/arbeidslivsportal" (external collaboration portal).

NB! This is an elective course and may be cancelled if fewer than 10 students are enrolled by August 20th for the autumn semester.

Content

The internship course aims to facilitate increased in-depth learning within selected fields of business administration. By applying theoretical knowledge to practical experience, this internship course provides a unique opportunity to reflect on the differences between theory and practice and the value of combining them to gain valuable knowledge and skills for a business administration career.

Students must work for 150 hours in a company or organization in an internship position divided over a 10 to 13 week period in the autumn semester, starting in September and ending no later than December.

Students must participate in a mandatory pre-internship seminar during the first week before the start of their Internship.

During their internship, each student should take field notes about specific issues they observe or experience. Drawing on these field notes, students should reflect on their internship, including (1) their attitudes, skills, and deliverables, (2) and resources of and interaction with the host organization.

The course is elective. The internship cannot be a substitute for or be included in a bachelor thesis. However, it represents an excellent opportunity to explore a topic for a thesis in the following semester.

Students must be enrolled in the internship course before they can start an internship work placement.
