The course consists of five topics:
- Inclusion and marginalisation of different groups
- Work inclusion
- Social inclusion
In our welfare society, some groups are marginalised in relation to both the labour market and civil society. One of the most important tasks of social work is to contribute to work inclusion and social inclusion. This applies in relation to individuals and groups, and in local communities.
Learning outcome
After successfully completing and passing the course, students will have achieved the following learning outcomes in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
Inclusion and marginalisation of different groups
- Has broad knowledge about the importance of living conditions, social inclusion and active participation in different phases of life for individuals, families and society.
- Has knowledge about how social class, exclusion, marginalisation and discrimination affect public health and living conditions.
- Has knowledge about inclusion, equality and non-discrimination, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion and beliefs, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and age, so that the candidate contributes to ensuring equal services for all groups in society.
- Has insight into conditions that contribute to discrimination and how to promote non-discriminatory practices and an inclusive society.
Work inclusion
- Has knowledge about the importance of work, work inclusion and conditions that regulate Norwegian working life.
- Can apply academic knowledge about work-oriented inclusion in encounters with job seekers, employers and partners
Social inclusion
- Can master methods in community work that promote power, influence, participation and representation.
- Can master relevant mapping, documentation, analysis and decision-making methods.
- Has insight into conditions that contribute to inequality and can promote social justice together with people in vulnerable positions.
- Can disseminate professional knowledge that promotes equality and diversity, and contribute to gender equality, inclusion, mastery and participation in everyday life, school and working life.

Scope: Maximum 3500 words including table of contents and notes; excluding source referencing and bibliography. Referencing style: APA 7th.Students who fail the re-sit or re-scheduled course examination must take the next ordinary examination together with the subsequent year group. The compulsory activities that have already been approved do not have to be retaken. Students must take the examination in accordance with any new and revised course description, but decide themselves whether to follow teaching in the new examination semester.
